Donating can help give a survivor the help they need

DONATING

We exist entirely through the generosity of our supporters and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated.

It costs over £200,000 each year to maintain our services, yet all of our services to clients remain free of charge.

We rely on the support of fundraising by the general public, local companies and trusts to enable us to continue caring for survivors, helping them cope with and recover from the trauma of rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment and childhood sexual abuse.

Please remember, if you send in a donation that is over £50, and you are a Jersey tax payer, you can complete a Tax Rebate Form (R10), allowing us to claim and additional 25% back from Income Tax on top of your donation.

Thank you.

Donations can also be made by making a payment to the following Bank Account:

Bank Account Name: Jersey Action Against Rape

Bank Account No.: 68296468

A monthly gift by Direct Debit will make a lasting difference to a survivor.

The cost of two coffees a month, over a year, could pay for a survivor to have two counselling sessions with a specialist Counsellor.

You can make donations to a nominated charity directly from your salary.

If the accumulated amount over the year is £50 or more, the donation will qualify as a lump sum donation.

It is an easier way to give, as your employer will administer the scheme and you can spread your charitable giving over a year.

For example:

• you join an employer who have a lump sum donation payroll scheme, so you set up a £10 per month donation direct from your salary from January to December
• the employer sends your donation to the nominated charity in December
• as the donation is over £50 it qualifies as a lump sum donation
• the charity will receive your £120 plus an additional £30 from the Taxes Office
• Your payroll will still provide your gross income (the amount before the charity deduction) to the Taxes Office and this is also the amount you must declare on your annual tax return.

You should also enter the details of the donation, along with any other qualifying donations to Jersey charities, on your personal tax return.

Gifts in Wills are vital to the work of most charities.

After you’ve taken care of loved ones, you may wish to leave a gift in your Will to JAAR

It’s a little-known fact that many charities wouldn’t survive without gifts in Wills. By remembering your favourite charity in this way, you’re ensuring that their good work lives on.

The donation can be as small or large as you like – every gift makes a big difference.

Do you have an idea of how to fundraise for JAAR? If so we need your ideas and help!

Once you know what you want to do, be it a Cake Sale in your Office, 80s Disco or running a marathon, please get in touch and let us know.

If you would like to organise a larger fundraising event for JAAR, it is very difficult to do everything yourself.

Recruit as many people as you can and get enough people involved in the early stages of planning.

As soon as you have an event in mind, please check the date to make sure that it does not clash with other events, you can do this by checking the Association of Jersey Charities Website.

Spread the word – The more people you tell the better –Social media is a great place to start.

You can put up posters and flyers at the gym, at schools, at the library and at other events that precede your own (remember to get permission first!).

Work notice boards, coffee machines, water coolers, kitchens and staff rooms are all great places for asking for help, as well as informing people about events. By asking people to help spread the word, you’ll get a greater response.

At JAAR we have collection buckets, volunteer t-shirts and small collection tins that you are welcome to use for your event.

We can also provide you with leaflets explaining more about our services to hand out to people.

Finally, always remember to thank people after the event, telling people how much you’ve raised.

People will be much more likely to help again if they feel appreciated.
