JAAR is an independent and confidential service helping people to recover from the trauma of sexual violence. We provide empathetic, non-judgemental counselling to help female and male survivors cope with and recover from the trauma of rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment, and childhood sexual abuse. We are looking for a counsellor to join our small team.

JOB PURPOSE
To provide a quality counselling service to victims of rape & sexual assault that have either been referred by other agencies such as Dewberry House (SARC) or those who wish to self-refer.
Be responsible for receiving referrals, undertaking initial counselling assessments & allocating clients across the counselling team to support the Lead Counsellor.
To provide one-to-one counselling for victims/survivors of sexual violence including pre-trial therapy.
Due to the nature of the work at JAAR & the potential of vicarious trauma, employees need to be mindful of their own self-care & ensure that they actively engage in clinical supervision & regular meetings with the lead counsellor.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide specialised counselling services in relation to sexual violence, approximately 10 – 12 clients per week.
Practice in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework (or equivalent professional body).
Have a broad knowledge & understanding of sexual violence, abuse and the environment in which they are working.
Select appropriate therapeutic interventions.
Always maintain confidentiality.
Undertake administration duties related to the counselling services including contracting, feedback, activity data and maintaining/updating accurate database records.
Support trainee counsellors based within the service on placement.
Managing incoming referrals and signposting where other services may be deemed more appropriate.
Attend counselling supervision with the Clinical Supervisor, once a month within contracted hours regarding case management, self-care, & own well-being.
Assess risk of harm to clients/self/others/property & take appropriate action considering sharing information in respect of Safeguarding Children & Vulnerable Adults etc.
Identify, develop, and maintain knowledge and skills relevant to the needs of the organisation around sexual violence and best practices in these areas. Attend and complete specialist training identified by JAAR. Ensure continued professional development in accordance with the professional body framework.
Attend a 1-hour weekly meeting with the Lead Counsellor to consider admin, HR, professional development, client statistics and case management.
Participate in appraisal & performance reviews.
Attend monthly JAAR team meetings.
Abide by JAAR policies & procedures.
PERSONAL SPECIFICATION
The Counsellor must:
Be fully qualified to a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Integrative Counselling or similar.
Be registered with BACP or similar.
Hold their own Counselling insurance.
Have experience working with a trauma-informed approach in an organisational setting.
Have good administrative skills.
Have an Enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS).
Have undertaken Safeguarding training or be willing to do so.
Understand Data Protection principles.
Pre-trial Therapy Training is desirable.
