International Women’s Day: Empowering Survivors, Creating Change

On International Women’s Day, we come together to celebrate the achievements, strength, and resilience of women everywhere. It is a day to reflect on the progress we’ve made and to acknowledge the ongoing work needed to create a world of equality, safety, and empowerment for all.

At JAAR, we stand in solidarity with survivors of sexual violence, many of whom are women. We know that women are disproportionately affected by sexual violence, and we are committed to offering a safe space for survivors to heal, rebuild, and reclaim their lives. For the past 10 years, we have provided trauma-informed counselling and support to countless women in Jersey, helping them to process their experiences, regain their confidence, and find their voices once again.

Sexual violence is a grave violation of a woman’s rights, and yet far too many women continue to experience it in silence. We cannot ignore the pain that sexual violence causes or the barriers that prevent women from coming forward. On this International Women’s Day, we reaffirm our commitment to breaking the silence, ending the stigma, and creating a society where women are believed, supported, and empowered to heal.

Together, we are stronger. By supporting survivors, raising awareness, and creating a culture of empathy and respect, we can change the narrative. We can build a future where every woman is safe, valued, and free from violence.

Today, we celebrate the women who inspire us every day with their courage and resilience — those who have shared their stories and those who are still on their journey of healing. And we commit to continuing the fight for a world where women’s voices are heard, their experiences are validated, and their healing is prioritised.

Thank you for standing with us and with survivors. Your support helps us to create meaningful change in our community, and together, we can make a lasting difference. Let’s continue to empower women, to fight for justice, and to work towards a world where no woman has to face violence in silence.
