JAAR Launches Denim Day 2025 Campaign with Creative Textile Workshops for Young People in Jersey

Jersey Action Against Rape (JAAR) is excited to announce the launch of its Denim Day 2025 campaign, a powerful new initiative that uses art to empower young people in Jersey to engage with the critical issue of sexual violence. This creative campaign will feature interactive textile workshops throughout March and April 2025, giving students a chance to explore the themes of consent, respect, and resilience through art.

What is Denim Day?
Denim Day is a global movement aimed at raising awareness about sexual violence and standing in solidarity with survivors. JAAR’s local campaign builds on this movement, inviting young people to use denim—a symbol of Denim Day—as a medium for self-expression, advocacy, and healing.

Workshops for Young People
JAAR will be hosting workshops at local schools, youth groups, and community centres, encouraging young people to create powerful art pieces using denim. These workshops provide a safe space for participants to engage in meaningful conversations about sexual violence and its impact, while using creativity to respond to the issues at hand.

Brooke Le Breton, spokesperson for JAAR, said:
“Art has an incredible ability to spark conversations, heal wounds, and build understanding. The Denim Day workshops offer young people a chance to creatively explore and respond to the critical issue of sexual violence, all while engaging in meaningful dialogue. The power of resistance art cannot be underestimated—it’s a way for young people to make their voices heard and take a stand, using art as both personal expression and a collective call to action.”

Exhibition of Artworks
The art pieces created in the workshops will be displayed in the YES Project window at Eagle House, La Colomberie, St Helier, throughout April and May 2025. This exhibition will allow the wider community to experience the powerful works of art created by young artists in support of survivors of sexual violence.
