Speaking out about sexual violence or abuse is never easy. At JAAR, we understand how much strength it takes to even consider reporting — and how important it is that you feel safe, supported, and in control.
That’s why we welcome the introduction of the Kulpa app: a secure digital evidence platform that puts power back into the hands of survivors.
What Kulpa means for you
- Your choice, your control – You decide what to share and when.
- Safe and secure – Evidence such as messages, photos, or recordings can be uploaded without giving away your whole device.
- Less retraumatisation – Reducing the need for repeated, invasive processes helps protect your well-being.
Some important things to remember (so you stay empowered, informed, and safe)
- Control and consent: You are in charge of which evidence you send, when you send it, and whether you want to involve others. No one should pressure you.
- Privacy & confidentiality: It’s good that Kulpa is independently certified, designed to secure evidence and protect privacy. Knowing what that means for you — who sees what, how it is stored, how long it is held — is part of making an informed decision.
- Not always immediate safety: If you are in danger, or need immediate protection, always contact emergency services first. The digital platform is not a substitute for real-time help.
- Support is essential: It can feel overwhelming; having someone with you, or someone you can talk with (a counsellor, a helpline, a trusted friend), can help. Doing this work emotionally can be hard.
You are not alone
Whether or not you choose to report, your experience matters and your healing matters. Kulpa is simply one more tool available to you, on your terms.
